Mad Max Gathering World Record Attempt

The Largest Gathering Of Mad Max Characters In One Location

Mad Max II, is an iconic Australian post apocalyptic action thriller film directed by George Miller, released in 1981 to critical acclaim.
The movie is set in the Australian outback following a global war and the collapse of civilization after oil supplies were nearly exhausted, and the world in a state of barbarism. The story follows the travails of former policeman Max Rockatansky. Haunted by the death of his family, Max now roams the desert wilderness of a post-apocalyptic Australia in a scarred, black, supercharged V-8 Pursuit Special. Scavenging for food and petrol, Max's only companion is an Australian Cattle Dog.
The movie was filmed on locations right here on the Mundi Mundi Plains, with the very road leading to the Mundi Mundi Bash featuring in many scenes of the iconic 1981 cult movie.

This year is the 40th anniversary of the release of Mad Max II, and in addition it was recently announced that the upcoming filming of Furiosa starring Chris Hemsworth will be taking place in 2022. (Furiosa is the origin story of renegade warrior Furiosa before she teamed up with Mad Max in Fury Road).

So what better motivation do we need to attempt a Mad Max themed world record?

Well here are at least two perfect reasons...

  1. The current unofficial record of 2,500 people dressed in Mad Max theme is held by the Wastelands Festival in California. And we all know how much us Aussies like beating those yanks! So let's bring the record back where it belongs in Australia, and let's break it right here where Mad Max II was filmed.
  2. To most of us it probably feels like we're in a bit of a post-apocalyptic state following the Covid 19 pandemic. So why not dress in that style?

How Will The Record Attempt Work

On Saturday 20th August, the last day of the festival, you are invited to dress up as a Mad Max character. The rules about what qualifies for being counted as dressed up as a Mad Max character are explained below.

We also have the Nutbush Dance World Record on this day raising funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. So we will have plenty of people around on counting duty for this world record, who will also be able to count the number of people dressed up in Mad Max character.

The details and the logistics of the counting will be explained at the festival, so you don't need to worry about that.

All you need to do, is make sure you bring along your Mad Max character gear and get dressed in it on Saturday morning. (And yes you can also take part in the Nutbush World record attempt in your Mad Max Gear!) How many people get to be part of breaking 2 world records in the one morning?

All records are adjudicated by the Australian Book of Records!

Saturday 20th August. Time TBA.
