Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash Postponed to 21-23 April 2022

Well, we certainly didn’t expect to be writing to you again this soon! With a hugely successful, sold out and COVID Safe Birdsville Big Red Bash in QLD already under our belts, we were ready to roll with the (also sold out!) inaugural Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash, and we were confident of being able to stage a responsible, COVID Safe event.

Only a couple of weeks ago we were in touch to announce the postponement of this year’s Mundi Mundi Bash from mid-August to late September. At the time, we hoped that the lockdown in Greater Sydney would see a rapid reduction in community transmission of COVID-19 and that we’d be able to go ahead, just a little later than planned.

Unfortunately, as we’ve seen, the Delta variant presents us all with new and unfamiliar challenges, and despite all the measures taken to control it, community transmission has continued to increase.

It is now clear that it would be unsafe and impractical for the Mundi Mundi Bash to go ahead this September. We’ve considered potential dates later in the year, but given the unpredictability of the Delta variant, and the importance of keeping the local community, patrons and our event team healthy and safe, we’ve decided that the risks of staging a large event so close to the communities of Broken Hill and Silverton in the coming months are simply too great, and the summer months are too hot for a multi-day camping festival in the outback.

"I think it's a good move to push the event back given the ongoing uncertainty that is being created by the escalating COVID-19 situation in NSW.

We're extremely happy with the proposed new dates as the event will fall between the Easter long weekend and the Anzac Day public holiday. The Bash will complement our own Heritage Festival over Easter, and will allow visitors to enjoy an extended stay in the city without using too much leave.

It has the potential to be a marquee week of entertainment, culture and heritage in the city, so we hope organisers enjoy some better luck in their tireless efforts to bring this massive event to Broken Hill.”

Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash to go ahead April 21-23, 2022

However we’re not ready to give up, and remain committed to bringing our amazing 2021 line-up to the Mundi Mundi Plains - even if it means doing it in 2022!

We’ve been talking with our artists, contractors, crew and vendors, as well as members of the local community, and like us they are all keen to give it another shot.

We are very pleased to confirm that our stellar line up remains unchanged (except for Thirsty Merc, who are unable to make the new dates), and we’re all looking forward to rocking the plains with you on April 21st - 23rd, 2022.

We’re confident that by next April, all Australians who want to be vaccinated will be, and lockdowns and travel restrictions will be a thing of the past. Broken Hill locals assure us that we can expect some of the best weather of the year in April, and being in the autumn school holidays, this family-friendly, dog-friendly festival is now perfectly timed to get everyone together for the outback experience of a lifetime.

Ticket holder information

If you have a ticket to the 2021 Mundi Mundi Bash it will be automatically transferred to the new dates in April, with the option to request a refund via Oztix here if you can’t make it.

If you can make it and you’re in a position to hold your ticket - please do. As well as guaranteeing your spot at the post-lockdown celebration of the year, your solidarity shows all our artists, contractors, crew and vendors that you’re 100% behind the recovery of the Aussie music industry as soon as COVID allows. The past 18 months have been a rough ride for so many Australians and our entire music industry. We’re all keen to get back to live gigs, concerts and awesome festivals under desert skies, as soon as it’s safe.

You’ll have a few months to decide either way - you can request a refund any time up to and including 31st October 2021.

Please refer to the FAQs for more detailed information, and responses to a range of ticket holder questions.

A massive thank you!

Once more, we'd like to give a huge thanks to everyone involved in the Bash, from artists and crew to production, vendors, sponsors and suppliers. Despite the ongoing uncertainty, they’ve all supported our decision to further postpone the event, and remain on board to ensure the successful delivery of the inaugural Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash.

We also want to thank you, our patrons, for sticking with us through these tough times. Your patience and support mean the world to us as we navigate this tricky world we’re living in right now. It’s you who make the Bash the amazing event it has become over the years, and we can’t wait to finally get together next April and (finally!) rock the Mundi Mundi Plains with you!
